Chakras Defined

The word Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk. It signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body which are the openings for life energy to flow into and out of our aura. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column. In addition the Chakras also correlate to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements (Jungian concepts), developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and more. Below is a brief description of each Chakra, including a shape and color which is considered significant.

Chakra One: (LOCATED AT THE BASE OF TAILBONE) Earth, Physical identity, oriented to self-preservation
(Crystals: Jasper, Tourmaline, Hematite) Located at the base of the spine, this Chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this Chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.[1]  Color: Red

Chakra Two: (LOCATED AT THE LUMBAR, SEX ORGANS) Water, Emotional identity, oriented to self-gratification
(Carnelian) The second Chakra, located in the abdomen, lower back, and sexual organs, is related to the element water, and to emotions and sexuality. It connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. Ideally this Chakra brings us fluidity and grace, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change. [1]  Color: Orange

Chakra Three: (LOCATED AT THE INTESTINES) Fire, Ego identity, oriented to self-definition (Crystals: Citrine) This Chakra is known as the power Chakra , located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When healthy, this Chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power. [1]  Color: Yellow

Chakra Four: (LOCATED AT THE HEART/CHEST) Air, Social identity, oriented to self-acceptance  (Labradorite) This Chakra is called the heart Chakra and is the middle Chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth Chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. [1]  Color:  Green

Chakra Five: (LOCATED AT THE THROAT) Sound, Creative identity, oriented to self-expression (Lapis Lazuli) This is the Chakra located in the throat and is thus related to communication and creativity. Here we experience the world symbolically through vibration, such as the vibration of sound representing language. [1]  Color:  Blue

Chakra Six: (LOCATED AT THE BROW) Light, Archetypal identity, oriented to self-reflection  (Amethyst) This Chakra is known as the brow Chakra or third eye center. It is related to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. As such it opens our psychic faculties and our understanding of archetypal levels. When healthy it allows us to see clearly, in effect, letting us "see the big picture." [1]  Color: Purple

Chakra Seven: (LOCATED AT THE TOP OF HEAD/CROWN)  Thought, Universal identity, oriented to self-knowledge (Clear Quartz) This is the crown Chakra that relates to consciousness as pure awareness. Some refer to it as a "god source." It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this Chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss. [1]  Color:  Clear/White

Chakra Eight is the Kundalini Serpent. This is not really a Chakra per se. However, it's location would be just above the Crown Chakra. It would engulf the entire body in it's energy sphere and have it's focal point like that of an ovular field. It's form mimics that of a serpent thus it's reference as the Kundalini serpent. It's foundation and basis is in Cosmic consciousness. The awareness is a part and required within this level. The existence and development of the Kundalini serpent will mark the individual with a permanently co-existing connection awareness to IT/TAO/GOD, etc.[1]

The chakras are parts of our spiritual bodies. We have three bodies, we have our physical body that we can all touch and feel, the emotional/mental bodies that we all
feel on the inside and a "less known" but much more important (in my opinion) a spiritual body. I believe it is much less known or understood because it is more subtle, more delicate then our physical or mental/emotional bodies There are 7 main chakras in our spiritual bodies, some say we have an eighth main chakra in our ears as well. We have lots of other little chakras in our bodies that some called meridians,  they are what acupuncturists deal with when creating channels throughout our bodies. So the thought and idea of
these chakras is not some "new age" idea or newly discovered thing. In fact I believe it is because of the age we are in that people are becoming more and more aware of their spiritual bodies as we evolve.

The 7 main chakras in our bodies all govern certain areas of our physical and
emotional self. I will go in more depth about each one of them on each
individual chakra page, just click on each name of the chakra below to find
more information about each chakra.

Root chakra  ~ governs your ability to feel safe and connected to this earth.
When this chakra is out of order one will feel insecure, not safe, not taken care
of, I find lots of people have this trouble with their root chakra and in my opinion
we need the root to be strong otherwise all the other chakras have a problem
being on a shaky foundation.

Sacral Chakra ~ governs your sense of taste, smell, sensuality, sexual and
reproductive organs, it also governs the pancreas, spleen and intestines. When
the sacral chakra is unbalanced one can have problems in any of these
physical areas or have trouble with their own sexuality.

Solar Plexus ~ governs your connection to "the other side", it is also said that
an ethereal cord is connected from our physical bodies and our spiritual bodies
through the solar plexus chakra. This chakra also governs the "me" part of your
personality it is the center of personal power, ambition, intellect, astral force,
desire. If the root is your foundation and the sacral your senses then the solar
plexus is how you identify yourself.

Heart Chakra ~ governs our emotions and feelings. The heart also governs our
actual physical heart, when someone has heart dis-ease it is likely they
unresolved have emotional issues as well.

Throat Chakra ~ governs our voice and creativity. The throat chakra when open
someone will have the ability to speak their truth without worry and express
themselves well.

Third Eye or Brow Chakra ~ governs out psychic sense and visions. When this
chakra is open and working properly we will likely be very in-sync with other and
things around us.

Crown Chakra ~ governs our connection to "Our Creator" however it is you
define "Our Creator" usually this chakra is either open or closed, there is not
usually an in-between.
